    One for All

Crucifixion Day - Who did Jesus exchange his life for?

1.Jesus exchanged his life for Barabbas

    (all 4 Gospels)

    (Matthew 27:20-22 NIV)
But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed. (21) “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor. “Barabbas,” they answered. (22) “What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” Pilate asked. They all answered, “Crucify him!”
    (マタイ 27:20-22 JCB)

-3 crosses that day prepared ready for 3 murderers. One was named ‘Barabbas. (‘son of the father’)

    -Jesus takes his place

    -the other thief too

    (Luke 23:39-43 NIV)
One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” (40) But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? (41) We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” (42) Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” (43) Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

2.Jesus exchanges his life for the Roman soldier

-Surely this was a righteous man

    (Luke 23:44-47 NIV)
It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, (45) for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. (46) Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit. When he had said this, he breathed his last. (47) The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, “Surely this was a righteous man.”
    (ルカ 23:44-47 JCB)

-Surely He was the son of God

    (Matthew 27:54 NIV)
When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”
    (マタイ 27:54 JCB)

3.Jesus exchanged his life for me and you

    (Romans 5:6-8 NIV)
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. (7) Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. (8) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
    (ローマ 5:6-8 JCB)

    (2 Corinthians 5:14-15 NIV)
For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. (15) And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
