New Year, New Me

John 5:1-14 (NIV)
5 One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.
6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
7 “Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”
8 Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.”
9 At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.

14 Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.”

How Can We Change?

Ephesians 4:22-24 (NIV)
22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self,which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;
23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds;
24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

3 “Big” Habits To Put On This Year

1. Journalling

Matthew 4:4 (NIV)
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

2. Clean Heart

Ephesians 4:26-27 (NIV)
26 “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,
27 and do not give the devil a foothold.

3. Simple Prayer

Philippians 1:3-4 (MSG)
3 Every time you cross my mind, I break out in exclamations of thanks to God. Each exclamation is a trigger to prayer.
4 I find myself praying for you with a glad heart.
