  • A New Year’s Revelation not Resolution
(Matthew 16:13-19) When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” (14) “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” (15) Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” (16) Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” (17) Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. (18) Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell[ will not conquer it. (19) And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.”

    1. Who am I?

-Every new year we always say to ourselves “this is the year that I am going to make a change”. In order to make a change we first must know our identity.

(2 Corinthians 5:17) This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

    2. Who is He?
-But in order to move forward into all the amazing things God has for us we must Know who he is

(Matthew 16:16) Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

    3. Bigger, Stronger, Faster
-When you understand who Jesus is, Hell and the plans of the enemy will never overcome you (defeat you). But doesn’t mean they won’t try

(Psalm 18:2) The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.

(Romans 8:31b) “… If God is for us, who can be against us”

    Life Group Questions and Prayer

    2013: ‘Even more fruitful’
(John 15:2) He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.

    1. Jesus’ desire (motive) in pruning (cleaning) us is to make us ‘more fruitful’

-God’s Ways are higher than our ways
(Isaiah 55:8-9) “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

(Hebrews 12:7,10-11) Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? (10) They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. (11) No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

(Leviticus 20:24) But I said to you, “You will possess their land; I will give it to you as an inheritance, a land flowing with milk and honey.” I am the Lord your God, who has set you apart from the nations.

-He has a plan and a timetable -Our times are in your hands

(Psalm 31:15a) My times are in your hands

    2. We can resist if we want (and live in the wilderness)

(Hebrews 4:1-3,6,8) Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. (2) For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed. (3) Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said, “So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ And yet his works have been finished since the creation of the world. (6) Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience (8) For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day.

(Numbers 32:13) 40years: The Lord’s anger burned against Israel and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the whole generation of those who had done evil in his sight was gone.

(Deuteronomy 1:2) 11days: It takes eleven days to go from Horeb to Kadesh Barnea by the Mount Seir road.

    3. We can co-operate and quickly bring Jesus’ short-cut to blessing

(Deuteronomy 6:3) Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you.

(Deuteronomy 11:9-12) and so that you may live long in the land the Lord swore to your ancestors to give to them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey. (10) The land you are entering to take over is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you planted your seed and irrigated it by foot as in a vegetable garden. (11) But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven. (12) It is a land the Lord your God cares for; the eyes of the Lord your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end.

    -Search me oh God
(Psalm 139:23-24) Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

(Daniel 3:30) Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the province of Babylon.

    1. Look at Me Now!
-Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were Jewish young men from Israelite royalty, who during Babylonian captivity were forced to serve their new King.

-When they refused to worship King Nebuchadnezzar as a god they went through some very hard times. But Jesus did a miracle and they were promoted into a very high position in the Kings Kingdom.

    2. Good News!
-At Christmas we celebrate the Good News of Jesus Birth
(Isaiah 9:6) For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

-But from the very beginning of Jesus life on earth it was surrounded with danger and BAD NEWS for Him.

-But Jesus also took our BAD NEWS so He could give us his GOOD NEWS.

(Isaiah 53:5) But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins, He was beaten so we could be whole (the punishment that brought us Peace was on Him). He was whipped so we could be healed.

-We didn’t deserve The amazing life He gave us, but He loved us so much He took the Bad news so we good have it!

(Romans 5:8) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

    3. Look At me Now!
(2 Corinthians 5:17) This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

(Romans 8:28) And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

    The Good News

(Luke 2:8-14) And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. (9) An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. (10) But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. (11) Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. (12) This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” (13) Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, (14) “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests”.

    God is With Us

(John 3:16-17) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (17) For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

  • What to do while waiting for your lift?

(1 Peter 5:6-7/ NLT) So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

(1 Peter 5:6-7/The Message) So be content with who you are, and don’t put on airs. God’s strong hand
is on you; he’ll promote you at the right time. Live carefree before God; he is most careful with you.

(Psalm 75:6-7) No one from the east or the west or from the desert can exalt a man. But it is God who
judges: He brings one down, he exalts another.

    Example of David

    1.Take care of the sheep

(1 Samuel 16:11, 19) So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered, “but he is tending the sheep.” Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.” (19) Then Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, “Send me your son David, who is with the sheep.”

    2.Develop skills -sling

(1Timothy 4:6/The Message) Exercise daily in God—no spiritual flabbiness, please! Workouts in the gymnasium are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and forever.

(Psalm 132:7) “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool.

4.Keep a clean heart, don’t allow rejection to rise

(Ephesians 4:26) “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry

5.Don’t push yourself forward, wait for the lift

(Psalm 5:3) In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.

(1 Samuel 16:12) So he sent and had him brought in. He was ruddy, with a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; he is the one.”

  • Living an Inspired Life with Jesus

(‘To inspire’ = to breathe in)

-Jesus was an inspirational leader – and the crowds were amazed

(Matthew 7:24-29) “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. (25) The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. (26) But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. (27) The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”(28) When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, (29) because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.

(Mark 1:27) The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.”

    -Taught with Authority

-Not like ordinary teachers (of the law)

    -Lives were changed

    1.Inspired leaders Teach with Authority

(Matthew 28:18) Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

    -Under authority

(Matthew 8:5-10) When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. 6 “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.”(7) Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?”(8) The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. (9) For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come, and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”(10) When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.

    2.Inspired leaders breathe-in

(2 Timothy 3:16) All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness

(Matthew 4:4) Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

(Jude 1:20) But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit

(Luke 4:42) At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them.

    3. Inspire leaders breathe-out at the right time

(Acts 20:20) You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house.

(2 Corinthians 1:24) Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy, because it is by faith you stand firm.

(2 Timothy 2:2) And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.

    Life Group Questions and Prayer

    1. Do you breathe in God’s word?

    True Friends

1.A True Friend will help unlock your future potential

(Proverbs 27:6/NKJV) Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

(Ephesians 4:15)Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.

2.A True friend is there when the going gets tough

(Proverbs 17:17) A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.

(Proverbs 18:24)One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

(Proverbs 19:4) Wealth attracts many friends, but even the closest friend of the poor person deserts them.

    3. A True friend rejoices when you succeed in life

(Romans 12:15) Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.

    4. A True friend would die for you

(John 15:13)Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

    1. 本当の友達は、あなたの将来の可能性を引き出してくれる

    (箴言27:6) 憎む者が口づけしてもてなすよりは、愛する者が傷つけるほうが真実である。

  • Love God, Love People, Love Life!

(Matthew 22:36-40) “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” (37) Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ (38) This is the first and greatest commandment. (39) And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ (40) All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

    1. Love God

(1 John 4:9-10) This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

    2. Love People

(1 John 4:11-12) Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

    3. Love Life

(Jeremiah 29:11) For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

    3. 人生を愛する
